The Shy Little Monster
Stephanie Leavell · illustrated by Sarah Pilar Echeverria
A Halloween story that's sweet and silly — not scary.
The story
The Shy Little Monster is a silly, sweet, interactive Halloween book for kids ages 1–7. It shows children that it's okay to be shy, it's okay to ask for help and — most importantly — good friends are always there to offer encouragement and help you find your voice. It's also a wonderful way to explore voice volume and dynamics!
The story began as a children's song by Stephanie Leavell — a mom, music educator, and Berklee-trained music therapist — who wanted a sweet and silly (not scary!) Halloween song to delight her preschool music groups.
Illustrator Sarah Pilar Echeverria and Stephanie bonded over their love of creating — they were born on the same day, in the same hospital, but became friends much later.
